The New York School of Poetry: A distant reading of affinities

The ultimate research goal of this project is to conduct a longer study on the New York School of Poets by integrating the distant readings of these analyses with a closer examination of what the distant readings point to. “Schools” of art are not entirely randomly identified, but it would be interesting to see if it is possible to create a system to measure relationships between groups of poems in order to demonstrate to what degree a definition of a “school” is founded on anything more than a coincidence of similar dates and locations of the artists.
