Exploring classical Belarusian fiction with the methods of corpus
and computational linguistics
The idea of the project is to build a corpus of Belarusian classical fiction texts from the first half of the 20th century. The period from the beginning of the 20th century until the end of World War II can be considered the classical age of Belarusian literature. The Belarusian literary tradition has not been studied as extensively as the written heritage of other Slavic nations with similar histories. Literary studies on Belarusian fiction also lack strong examples of the application of up-to-date approaches to this material. The goal is not only to answer a number of research questions, but also to publish the corpus and promote Belarusian literature—an under-studied subject—for further research by a wider audience.
